Understand the workflow first
We begin with who will use the product, how they currently work and where time is lost or mistakes happen. Together, we choose what the first version needs and what can wait. This makes the initial scope easier to discuss, review and deliver.
Needs we can discuss
- Mobile applications with screens and actions shaped around user needs.
- Web apps for accessing information and completing work in a browser.
- Order and task management with clear processing states.
- Dashboards for the information your team needs to follow.
- API integrations and data connections within an agreed scope.
From an MVP to a tool your team uses every day
If you want to test a product idea, an MVP can start with the main user journey. For custom business software, we clarify where information comes from, who processes it and who needs the reports. An internal tool may only need task tracking, order management and appropriate user permissions, rather than a large set of rarely used features.
Design, development and review
I plan the user flows and interface before building the main features. You have work to review at each stage. Account requirements, access permissions, data handling and integrations are discussed as part of the scope rather than left until handover.
Confidentiality and project examples
You do not need to send real customer data for an initial discussion. Sample data is enough to explain a workflow. Some of my previous projects remain private because of client confidentiality commitments and the need to protect user information.
Common questions
Should I build a mobile app or a web app?
The choice depends on how people will access it, which device features it needs and your budget. We discuss those requirements before choosing an approach.
Can development be split into phases?
We can agree on an initial version with the essential functions, then discuss the scope and cost of later phases separately.
Can custom business software replace our spreadsheets?
It may help when information is difficult to track or shared editing causes mistakes. I review your workflow, sample data structure and access needs before recommending whether a custom management system makes sense.
What do you need to estimate MVP development?
Describe the main users, the problem to solve and the most important workflow. We use that to agree on the initial scope, review criteria and features to defer. Timing and cost are estimated for that scope.
Can you connect a web app or dashboard to an external API?
I first review the API documentation, available access, permitted data use and provider limits. Synchronisation, error handling and any third-party costs need to be agreed before implementation.
